Blending alternative pop, rock and Portuguese folk traditions, “OCO” (“hollow”), the new single from Joana Alegre, is driven by electric guitars and atmospheric textures by Neil Leyton and Patricio Fraile, as well as RAIA’s traditional viola campaniça and a hypnotic, chant-like chorus. The song balances melodic accessibility with an enigmatic, provocative spirit.

With lyrics by Joana Alegre and music co-written and co-produced with Tozé “RAIA” Bexiga and Patricio Fraile, “OCO” challenges false idols, hollow appearances and collective apathy. Its defiant refrain becomes both an accusation and an unsettling invitation to question the structures of power and the silence that sustains them.

Featuring Danish musician Patricio Fraile on guitars and atmospheric textures, Xumiga on bass, Pedro Almeida on drums and Neil Leyton on electric guitar, the track was recorded, mixed and mastered by Nelson Canoa at Estúdios Canoa.

“OCO” is out October 30th, 2026. Pre-save it here: mermaids.ffm.to/oco
