Neil Leyton’s first studio recordings date to 1991, when he was simultaneoulsy playing bass in Passion d’Flower and fronting Toronto rock band Innocent Sin. Both projects were formed in high school, and released cassette albums that were recorded in 1991 and released in 1992.
2021 thus marks Neil Leyton’s 30th official year making music (there were demos as early back as ’89, but not released). From starting out with Innocent Sin and Passion d’Flower in 1991, to fronting The Conscience Pilate between 1995 and 1997, to his first solo outing in 1999 with the “Secret Avenue” album to everything that came after – with projects such as Galore, Pretty Volume, The Point and others – Leyton is set to release a brand new album this year, Lusitanian Ghosts‘ “Exotic Quixotic”.
The 30 year mark calls for a celebration: 30 years making music, from Innocent Sin to Lusitanian Ghosts, will thus feature:
- The Leyton’s Music Lives online radio show: every Friday, a new episode will be online at https://www.mixcloud.com/NeilLeyton/ with many episodes also featuring interviews with several Leyton’s music friends.
- Unreleased Singles: a series of digital releases of non-album tracks that have not yet seen the official light of day. The first of these will be “The Farewell Song”, a Neil Leyton track featuring Skutch from Passion d’Flower, coming in February via the Shame Destroyer label.
- Celebratory EP’s: a series of EP’s, some re-issues and others unreleased, spanning several periods over Leyton’s 30 years. These will include new and old titles such as the original The Conscience Pilate – Living in a Movie Scene EP release, the Fires of the Heart EP, the My New Soul EP, the This Is The Way EP as well as the So Not Alone and The Leyton Rifles EPs, originally planned as albums but “folded” into the Elite Nylon album. Plus a re-mastered The Point and other surprises!
- 30 Year Blog: Memories and recollections to accompany each digital release.
- Year-End 30 track Playlist: once all releases have been made available, a Spotify playlist will recap Leyton’s 30 years in music in a chronology of songs… both Leyton’s as well as other collaborations along the way!
